A label adhesive can be a self-adhesive layer for labels, but also hot melt or water-based adhesive.
AA Self adhesive PSA
Standard self-adhesives labels are the most cost-effective when coated with a water-based acrylic adhesive. Because of the maximum layer thickness, this adhesive may quickly reach it limits on fast running labelling machines
- Low cost
HMPSA
Hot melt PSA’s are used to create more advanced labels, whilst there is no moisture in a hotmelt, it consists of 100% solids. Therefore a thicker layer can be applied on self-adhesive labels, which increases tack and bond strength on difficult to adhere surfaces
- high labelling speeds
- high adhesion grades
- almost any substrate, carton, cans, glass, plastics
- alkali dispersable grades for re-useable and recycleable packaging
Waterbased labelling
Water-based labelling adhesives have always typically been used for beer bottle labelling, especially casein adhesives. Casein adhesives have been replaced by synthetic grades in the last decade, however, casein is still used and available. Water-based adhesives are mostly used for beer bottle labelling, can labelling and PET/PE labelling.
- low cost
- high speeds
- ice water resistant
- recycleable and reusable packaging grades
- for cartons, glass, cans and PET/PE
- most environmental friendly
Hot melt labelling
Hot melt labelling is gaining market share recently. Because of its efficiency and marketing possibilities like no-label-look applications.
- low cost
- high speeds
- practically only wraparound labelling
- alkali dispersable grades for re-useable and recycleable packaging
- almost any substrate, carton, cans, glass, plastics
